Tropics Tap House in Island of Hawaii

At first glance, you might think this is a tourist place that is surviving because of the great views... However, this great place is so much more than a tourist place. 1. Had dinner once, went back with friends; always trust the fresh sheet for dinner specials. 2. Terrific beer selection.3. The staff is very friendly and quick to make sure you're satisfied.4. All of this in a classic neighborhood sportsbar, including a few regulars who add just enough authenticity.5. And, of course, the incredible view.

Friendly and attentive staff. Got the Fettuccine Alfredo ($18) with added veggies ($5), so just a little pricey. But presentation was phenomenal. Pomegranate cider was just alright (not sure the brand), adding lemon made it better. Parking lot is a great place to watch the sunset.

Told to sit where we wanted, turned out that was false and a surly waitress did nothing to accommodate us. Would not recommend this dump.

Stopped twice in our trip to Kona for a few drinks. Decent selection and great service.

Not quite a sports bar bc the TVs are small and few in number. Good number of tables for eating, but the atmosphere and food doesn't warrant the prices. That said it is on par with other restaurants in the area. It just isn't a full-on restaurant ... More of a bar. It had a laid back local vibe with a partially obstructed view of the ocean across the parking lot.

Good sports bar, has games like Bochy and darts. Fun place with good beer selection.

Happy hour was amazing with offering 4 dollar beers! Probably wont get the nachos again. 2 sliders for 5 bucks was awesome as they tasted delicious. The a.c. wasnt on so it was pretty warm until the sunset. Servers were super nice and attentive. Will more than likely be back!Please give me a "like"!

Good food and cooperative staff - even if you want to watch NY Rangers vs Ottawa Senators in Stanley Cup hockey - in Hawaii... they make it happen!

Nice view of the water to enjoy lunch. Food was average the chicken sandwich had a different breading similar to a funnel cake in my opinion. Host was warm and we were able to seat ourselves. The grilled chicken seasoning was not our favorite I think they add either rosemary or parsley. I would recommend to tourist on the island.

My party (aka my family and I) was not welcomed and they were rude. Don’t waste your time.

This bar has a friendly staff and a solid menu. I go there a couple times a month and I'm always a little happier when I leave than when I arrived.

Poor service, and they were not even half full. We ordered a steak sandwich and a chicken sandwich. Food came half hour later, one of the orders completely wrong. Correct sandwich came 15 minutes later. Waitress did apologize and give a discount. The steak sandwich was good, but the chicken was sloppy and disgusting. We also had to find our own napkins and silverware. Waitress spent more time with 3 guys just ordering drinks then the full tables ordering lunch. Not going back for a while.

One of the best dinner sports bar on the island.

We come here every time we visit the Big Island. It is casual, with a good beer, wine and liquor selection. The food we tried was very good. Even with the good drink selection all family members would enjoying coming here.

Good place for happy hour (2-5). Friendly service. Nothing fancy, but it's not supposed to be. Food is ok. Lava flows are particularly good here. Very nice sunset views.

Our meals were really good. The staff is very friendly. You can get food here if coming in late. Plenty of seating. Easy access and plenty of parking.

We went to this place as a final stop on our otherwise fabulous vacation to Hawaii. We were told to sit where we wanted. Chose a nice table in the shade with a great breeze on a hot afternoon. A gal, who we later realized was our waitress came over and immediately started putting the shade down next to our table. I asked if we could at least keep the breeze and she said you can move, I have to put this down. I took a deep breath and we realized that the shade came down for another table of 6 women watching the Patriots football game. They were super loud and we realized this was not the place for us. We wanted a nice happy hour and didn’t even get that far. They were very rude, we left!

Not my favorite sports bar. Chicken sandwich was gross, no nhl games, what is jeopardy doing on TV in a sports bar? The bartender was friendly but way over worked. Place was understaffed in my opinion

Loved this place! Friendly and fast moving staff. Awesome food especially for the price. Fantastic happy hour drinks and appetizers. We are from the east coast and they had a Sunday morning breakfast with football. Highly recommend with friendly customers and staff it felt like being home.

Open air bar with lots of Tv's. I watched the Super Bowl here! Laid back, family friendly atmosphere and great Super Bowl specials.

If you are deciding on dinner tonight go no further than the tropics tap house we had the special Mahi Mahi it was fantastic and I had the steak which was great fast service and a big smile. I would come back again

Love the atmosphere, the open air seating with a view that is amazing, the food rocks and the drinks are spot on. We liked this cozy restaurant so much, we visited twice this week. I liked that the servers worked with each other and were extremely friendly. Would visit again and again.

Giving this place a one-star is pretty high. Poopy service, poopy environment.

So, this was the first stop of our 10 day trip to Kona. We were tired and hungry and had just gotten off of a plane. The drinks were delicious and the server was very friendly. Unfortunately the food was awful. My kids had the burgers which were basically salty charcoal briquettes with a bit of an off flavor. The fish tacos which were "market price" had 2 or 3 tiny cubes of fish in each taco. The linguini, while having an nice flavor was not a very generous portion at all. Bear in mind all of these dishes were about 18 bucks. My wife was the only one who struck gold by only ordering off of the happy hour menu. We left very disappointed and still very much hungry.

We went to Tropics for lunch. It's a great tap house with a good selection of beers. It would be a great place to watch sports! The food was very good. The Paniolo sandwich (Kailua pork with pineapple salsa and coleslaw!) was delicious. We had great service and the food came out very fast. It's a nice location near a shopping center the only thing is your view is over the parking lot. Otherwise if you're waiting to check in be sure to head up the hill, have a beer and relax a little bit. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Went on a recommendation from a local with my family on vacation, everything was delicious, some of the best calamari I have had...steak was cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed our meal!

Great long view of Pacific. Used to be pitcher Don Drysdale's place for baseball history fans. Food is so so but the place has a nice vibe. Go somewhere else if you want gourmet food but it is fine for a sports bar. Just relax and enjoy the breeze that flows through the place.

Avoid this place at all cost. If you enjoy lousy food and waitresses that look like they're high. Also check your receipt they tried to add on items that you never order and everything is overpriced.
